Masked behind the monastery of the Franciscans whose church it is, Adam and Eve's received its commonly used name from the Public House through which it was entered during Penal times. The current church with its campanile and dome is by Patrick Byrne who designed several churches nearby including St Audoen's and St Paul's.

The monastery is a collection of austere stone buildings to the corner of Wood Quay in a style best described as "Irish Catholic Institutional Italianate".
